Biographical Info

A southern Georgia native, Dr. Matt Rivera is a Diplomate of the American Board of Family Medicine. He graduated summa cum laude from Valdosta State University with a Bachelor of Science in Biology with a minor in Religious Studies. He earned his Doctor of Medicine in 2018 from the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University and completed his residency in 2021 at the University of Rochester Medical Center with areas of concentration in Maternal Child Health and Integrative Medicine. He is a clinical instructor of Family Medicine at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry, and he has furthered his mental health training through the REACH Institute’s Patient-centered Mental Health in Pediatric Primary Care program. He joined The Chautauqua Center in November 2022, where he practices full-spectrum Family Medicine with a commitment to holistic care. While in medical school, Dr. Rivera studied acupuncture under professors from China’s Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and he is currently enrolled in the medical acupuncture course at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University to become a licensed medical acupuncturist. Dr. Rivera has taken courses including pastoral counseling at the Church Divinity School of the Pacific, and he aspires to complete his Master of Divinity and to be ordained an Episcopal priest. He is a recipient of the National Health Service Corps Scholarship, the John F. Beard Award from Augusta University, the Leonard Tow Humanism in Medicine Award from the Arnold P. Gold Foundation, and the Pediatric Mental Health Training Award from the REACH Institute. He lives in Fredonia, New York with his dog Taffy, cat Elsa, hedgehog Sprocket, and lots of fish!
