Event
Mammogrammys
2022
The Chautauqua Center (TCC) is partnering with Windsong Mobile Mammography to provide expedited mammogram screenings for current patients and the community with two events during Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October. While the schedules for screenings are already full those two days, TCC is holding free spa-day events that are open to everyone. The Mammogrammys dates and locations are:
- Dunkirk – Tuesday, October 18, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at The Chautquaua Center, 75 E 3rd St.
- Jamestown – Thursday, October 27, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at The Chautauqua Center, 107 Institute St.
Sponsored by Molina Healthcare, the spa-day events will include massages, facials, yoga, meditation, health and beauty information, cancer prevention, food, entertainment, a Chinese Auction, and more. TCC will also begin offering OB-GYN services in the near future, and Dr. Jennifer Reason, Board Certified Obstetrician and Gynecologist, will attend the events to provide insights on women’s health and services. TCC’s new Mobile Health Care unit will also be in service during the events.
“When planning this event, we were thinking about what holds people back when it comes to getting a mammogram. It can be the inconvenience. It can be the length of the wait for an appointment. They can be scared. We want to make it as easy as possible for our patients to get a mammogram screening, if it’s necessary for them,” Michael Pease, The Chautauqua Center CEO, said.
The following are the American Cancer Society guidelines for women at average risk for breast cancer:
- Women between 40 and 44 have the option to start screening with a mammogram every year.
- Women 45 to 54 should get mammograms every year.
- Women 55 and older can switch to a mammogram every other year, or they can choose to continue yearly mammograms. Screening should continue as long as a woman is in good health and is expected to live at least 10 more years.
- All women should understand what to expect when getting a mammogram for breast cancer screening – what the test can and cannot do.
Screenings, procedures, and concerns should always be discussed with a physician.
Preventative screening is covered by most insurances. Windsong Mobile and TCC partner with Cancer Services to provide financial assistance for those in need or who qualify.
