Mammogrammy
Days 2021
The Chautauqua Center (TCC) is partnering with UPMC Chautauqua, Brooks-TLC Hospital System Inc., and the Windsong Mobile Unit to provide expedited mammogram imaging for current and new patients during Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October. If existing patients and new patients schedule a clinical breast exam (CBE) with their TCC doctor and are issued a prescription for a mammogram, they will be eligible to have the imaging done on one of the following Mammogrammy Days dates and locations:
– UPMC Chautauqua Radiology Department, Jamestown, on Nov. 4, 2021, all day
– Windsong Mobile Unit at the National Comedy Center, Nov. 5, all day
– Brooks-TLC Hospital System, Dunkirk, on Nov. 8, all day
“When planning this event, we were thinking about what holds people back when it comes to getting a mammogram. It can be the inconvenience. It can be the length of the wait for an appointment. They can be scared. Through this month-long event and with our dates in November, we want to make it as easy as possible for our patients to get a mammogram, if necessary. We are even providing transportation to and from the mammograms on those dates,” Michael Pease, The Chautauqua Center CEO, said.
As a proactive approach, TCC outreach staff will be contacting patients who have been identified as qualifying for their clinical breast exam or mammogram. Staff will schedule those patients in October. Once a patient has had a CBE, discussed their risks with their doctor, and obtained a prescription, our schedulers will help set up the day, location, and time for a mammogram. TCC vehicles will be used to transport patients to and from the imaging sites on the day of their mammogram. Those who are not currently patients are encouraged to call to set up an initial appointment with a TCC provider to be eligible to participate.
“Due to COVID-19 and the increased cases from variants, we decided to avoid gathering people together for our annual Mammogrammy event. Instead, we are offering these three Mammogramy Days for our patients and working to get those patients mammogram appointments ahead of when they would typically be able to schedule them,” Pease added.
Women 16 years of age and over are encouraged to get an annual clinical breast exam. People of all genders over the age of 40 should get an annual clinical breast exam and mammogram, if necessary. Self breast exams are encouraged at any time. Screenings, procedures, and concerns should always be discussed with a physician.
Preventative screening is covered by most insurances. TCC partners with Cancer Services to provide financial assistance for those in need or who qualify.
